Biographical and Professional Information

A 1989 "Cowgirl Hall of Fame" inductee, Georgie Connell Sicking prefers to be called a cowboy because she performed the same ranch work as well or better than her males counterparts. Born in Seligman, Arizona, her father was dragged to his death by a horse and Georgie herself has suffered numerous falls and serious injuries, including a recent fall from her own horse during her 80s. She began writing cowboy poetry at the age of 17, whenever she was in cow camp, and has produced some seventy poems during her lifetime. She continues to travel around the country performing at cowboy poetry gatherings, although legally blind, and is the recipient of the "Gail Gardner Award" for outstanding working cowboy poets. Her biography, A Mare Among Geldings, was written by Glorinane Wiegand and an award-winning, hour-long docoumentary film about her life titled, "Ridin' and Rhymin'" was produced in 2004 by Far Away Films. Georgie Sicking was invited to perform at the first Elko, Nevada, cowboy poetry gathering and is a featured cowboy poet at the Bar D Ranch Cowboy Poetry site @ [http://www.cowboypoetry.com/sicking.htm#Just].
