Biographical and Professional Information

Louise Turk was born in 1921 and grew up during the Depression. At 18 she married Brookie Turk and was introduced to the world of sheepherding, which she took up instead of becoming a housewife. She raised two step-children, as well as a child of her own, in a sheepwagon and made a comfortable home for the family in Wyoming.

After Brookie's death in 1981, Louise continued to work with sheep, herding them alone on the Big Horn mountains until she retired in 1998. Her retirement has not been idle. She raises chickens, gardens, and writes.
